Adam Bokaris
Euphonium - Virtuoso
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Adam began playing the euphonium at the age of nine in his primary school concert band. His love for music grew through school and community ensembles, eventually leading him to pursue a career in brass performance.
In 2014, Adam moved to Manchester to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, where he was taught by David Thornton and Steven Mead. He graduated in 2018 with a First-Class Honours degree, later completing an MA in Music with Distinction from The University of Salford.
Over the years, Adam has had the privilege of performing with some of the UK’s top brass bands, including Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Fairey Band, and Leyland Band. Now, as Solo Euphonium of the Black Dyke Band, he enjoys making music with one of the most historic and respected bands in the world. One of his most memorable experiences was performing as a soloist at the Sydney Opera House in 2013, the same year he was crowned the Australian National Euphonium Champion.
Alongside performing, Adam is passionate about teaching. He has been the lecturer of Euphonium and Baritone at The University of Salford, The University of Manchester, and The University of Leeds. He has also worked with Stockport Schools’ Brass Bands, and continues to teach privately. He enjoys helping players of all levels develop their skills and confidence.
Adam has also enjoyed playing chamber music with The Brass Compass Euphonium Quartet. In 2016, the group won both the International Tuba and Euphonium Quartet Competition in Tennessee, USA, and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Chamber Music Competition, later performing as guest artists at the Singapore Low Brass Festival.
He has been grateful to receive recognition for his playing, including ‘Best Soloist’ at the Yorkshire Area and ‘The Geoffrey Whitham Memorial Trophy for Best Euphonium’ at the British Open.
Adam is an Artist and Development Consultant for The Oldroyd Group and Denis Wick Products.
